The piece is the beginning of a response to Maurice Blik’s moving, honest and brave testimony. He was only a young and innocent boy when he was taken by the Nazis. Lost and Found explores images and themes related to youth and innocence, inspired by Maurice’s life affirming messages of survival, resilience, celebration and hope. Maurice taught us that despite our differences, we ought to take care of one another. I led the pupils through a series of physical theatre and movement exercises for them to express their interpretation of key moments from Maurice’s story. For example, when he was on the ‘ lost train’, when he saved his sister from being shot or when he was looking for pieces of bread under the pillows.

Collaboratively, we created a modern dance ensemble fusing different genres that went through different physical and emotional states to tell our echo of his story.
